Tetralogy Of Fallot

  • The child is born with the four heart defects:

tetralogy

  • Overriding aorta : The aorta does receive blood not only from the left chambers of the heart (which is oxygenated) but also the right chambers that contain deoxygenate blood.

Overriding aorta

  • Ventricular septal defect VSD: Defect in the septum – opening causes the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to be mixed in the ventricles.

Ventricular septal defect VSD

  • Pulmonary stenosis: Narrowing of the pulmonary valve – right ventricle and pulmonary artery – less blood flows to the lungs

Pulmonary stenosis

  • Thickened right ventricle/ right lower chamber of the heart: Heart chamber thickens to compensate for the low blood flow to the lungs

Thickened right ventricle right lower chamber of the heart
