A type of coronary artery disease caused by arteriosclerosis
Cause by partial to total occlusion of the lumen of the coronary arteries
Mainly caused by the deposit of cholesterol on the wall of the coronary arteries
Sometimes the plaque can get hardened by the fibrous tissue and calcification
Symptoms and conditions generally depend on the location of the lesion and the severity of the occlusion:
Angina: Chest pain – can be stable or unstable; occurs during exercise or emotional stress.
AMI: Acute myocardial infarction – a blockage in the coronary arteries that interferes with the blood flow to a certain part of the heart – can cause damage to that part.
