Chaotic electrical impulses in the atria that causes rapid, uncoordinated, weak contractions of the atria.
These impulses bombard the AV node, usually resulting in an irregular, rapid rhythm of the ventricles.
It may be temporary, but some episodes will not end unless treated.
May lead to serious complications such as stroke.
